In a recent speech delivered to the Auckland District Law Society, New Zealand Attorney-General Judith Collins reaffirmed the critical role of the rule of law in maintaining a stable, democratic society.

She emphasized that the rule of law is not simply a legal concept but a societal cornerstone that upholds justice, liberty, and public trust. Collins pointed out that recent events have placed the judiciary and democratic institutions under increasing scrutiny and that legal professionals must remain committed to upholding judicial independence and legal integrity.

Highlighting the importance of public confidence in the legal system, Collins also urged legal practitioners to serve as guardians of democratic principles, particularly during times of political and societal pressure.
